Setting Tansa server address(es) on the workstation

When installing a Tansa Client or a Tansa Administrator (desktop version), you need to supply the address to the Tansa server, unless you have previously done this through an earlier installation. There are a few ways to do this:

Windows Client and Windows Administrator

1) Locate %programfiles%\Tansa 4\TS4.ini (or %programfiles(x86)%\Tansa 4\TS4.ini on 64 bits systems) on a workstation or the Tansa server. Copy this file to the folder from which you are running the Tansa Client installer or the Tansa Administrator installer. The installer will read the server address from the TS4.ini file in the installation folder, create a new TS4.ini in %programfiles%\Tansa 4\ and set the server address in that file. This method will overwrite the server address in any existing %programfiles%\Tansa 4\TS4.ini, which means this method can also be used to change the server address for existing Tansa workstations.

2) Copy a ready-made TS4.ini (see item 1) directly to %programfiles%\Tansa 4\ before running the installer.

3) Enter the server address (local IP address, local computer name or external DNS address) when prompted during the installation. The installation wizard will first look for a TS4.ini file in the installation folder. Failing to find one there it looks in %programfiles%\Tansa 4\. Failing to find one there it prompts the user.

4) Windows Client only: After a TS4.ini file has been correctly set up with a Tansa server address (see items 1, 2 and 3), it is possible for the individual user to specify a different Tansa server address through the "Connection..." item in the Tansa menu, if you have a license for this feature. Any new addresses entered by the user this way will be stored in the following local file: %appdata%\Tansa\Tansa 4\TansaServerAddresses.xml. This file will list all addresses entered by the user along with all addresses in %programfiles%\Tansa 4\TS4.ini. Each address will have a time stamp for last use by the user. The last used address will be the active one used when starting a Tansa Client enabled application.

Note: It is possible to set up the TS4.ini file with multiple Tansa server addresses. Example:

[WebService]
url=http://tansaprod/tansa4/ts4.wsdl
url-test=http://tansatest/tansa4/ts4.wsdl

At least one of the values must be called "url". The name of each additional ini value must start with "url" and it must be a unique name (no two identical). This will have different effects on the Tansa Client and the Tansa Administrator:

Tansa Client: The first address will be used as the active one, unless an existing %appdata%\Tansa\Tansa 4\TansaServerAddresses.xml dictates otherwise. The user can easily "hot swap" between the two Tansa servers via the "Connection..." item in the Tansa menu, if you have a license for this.

Tansa Administrator: When starting the Tansa Administrator application a dialog box will ask the user to select between the available Tansa servers.

Note 2: Addresses in the TS4.ini file affects all users of the workstation while addresses in the TansaServerAddresses.xml file affects the current user only. TansaServerAddresses.xml has precedence over TS4.ini.

Mac Client and Mac Administrator

Mac Client

1) Enter the server address (local IP address or external DNS address) when prompted during the installation. The installation wizard will first look for a server address in /Users/<current user>/Library/Preferences/com.tansasystems.plist. Failing to find one there it looks for a server address in /Library/Application Support/Tansa/startup.plist. Failing to find one there it prompts the user.

2) Copy a ready-made startup.plist to /Library/Application Support/Tansa/ before running the Client installer.

3) Copy a ready-made com.tansasystems.plist to /Users/<current user>/Library/Preferences/ before running the Client installer.

Note: The address in /Library/Application Support/Tansa/startup.plist affects all new Tansa users of the workstation, while the address in /Users/<current user>/Library/Preferences/com.tansasystems.plist affects the current user only. com.tansasystems.plist has precedence over startup.plist.

Mac Administrator

1) Enter the server address (local IP address or external DNS address) when prompted during the first launch of the application. The application will first look for a server address in /Users/<current user>/Library/Preferences/com.tansasystems.TS4MXAD.plist. Failing to find one there it prompts the user.

2) Copy a ready-made com.tansasystems.TS4MXAD.plist to /Users/<current user>/Library/Preferences/ before running the application. Note: In contrast to the Windows counterparts, the Mac Client and the Mac Administrator have no common storage of the server address.
